More details on the platformer in development:
The main theme I am focusing on that will make the game unique is the growth and shrink powerups that you encounter within the levels. These affect areas you reach, and how you fight enemies. For example, when you first encounter an ant, you are so tiny that you can jump on it’s back and walk across, doing no damage to the ant. Only when you grow will you be able to land on it and squash it, Mario-style. Then a further growth powerup will make you immune to the ants’ previously dangerous but now tiny pincers, and you can just walk across a group of them.
I’ve been working mainly on the controls and physics so far, trying to model feel of the game based on Super Mario World, except with the addition of wall-jumps.
